WELCOME, Look Through the Glass, 2022 Oil on Canvas / Khaila Batts
The first piece consists of intentionally incorporated geometric elements creating a metaphorical window or door, serving to replicate a sense of visual noise and symbolize the overwhelming impact of human activity on the environment.
By integrating elements of trash and discarded objects into their oil paintings, the artist aims to evoke a range of emotions and prompt reflection on the choices we make as consumers. Through this integration of discarded materials, the artist amplifies the voices of those directly affected by these issues and serves as a call to action, encouraging viewers to engage in dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy for climate justice.
Khaila Batts is currently living and working in New York as an multi-in disciplinary artist. Batts often draws inspiration from familiarity; and often incorporates photographs of family and neighbors, serving as vessels for connection and a recollection of the past.
