Blueberry Fields / Vilma Leino

Vilma Leino

Finland/Germany

Photograph on canvas

Vilma Leino's series Blueberry Fields, and featured image The Last Blueberries, imagines a world where blueberries face extinction, exploring themes of displacement, resilience, and connection. The photographs depict fragile landscapes where nature struggles to survive, reflecting loneliness and the power of community. Blueberries appear withdrawn yet capable of forming bonds, emphasizing the need for togetherness. The series exists between softness and struggle, where hope and love emerge to counteract chaos and melancholy.

Addressing the climate crisis, mental health, and collective care, Leino’s work offers a space for reflection and comfort. "Blueberry Fields" fosters closeness and reminds viewers of the importance of mutual support.

Based in Berlin, Leino studied graphic design and photography in Finland before attending the World of Co artist residency. She has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions across Europe and North America. Recognized with awards and special mentions, her work has been published in multiple art magazines, including Marvelous Art Magazine and The Woven Tale Press. In 2024, she published the photobook "TERRARIUM: Space for Understanding Identity" with SNAP Collective.
