Bloom, 2021

Film, 1:37 minutes

Bocci’s Bloom is a short animated meditation on hope in the midst of societal and ecological crisis. Created entirely from paper scraps, photographs, and scavenged trash, the film reflects life’s ability to adapt and flourish in even the most unexpected conditions. By transforming discarded materials into something new, Bloom offers a quiet reflection on resilience and renewal.

Rooted in a process of sorting, rearranging, and reimagining, the film explores the potential for beauty and possibilities within humble resources. It serves both as a creative experiment and a metaphor for change, showing that with patience, attention, and care, even what is discarded can take on new meaning and purpose.

Chandra Bocci is an artist and maker, originally from rural Oregon, now based in New York City. She studied at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and Parsons School of Design, with past exhibitions at the Portland Art Museum, MASS MoCA, and galleries in L.A., New York, and Boston. A recipient of a New Work Grant from the Queens Council on the Arts in 2021, she is currently developing several children's books while continuing to explore the possibilities of found materials in her art.
